I joined the Hero team with the mission to enhance the user experience of a patient-oriented app, while also revitalizing the current brand identity with a fresh and distinctive character.

About Hero Health

Connecting healthcare professionals and patients. Hero delivers patient communication and appointment scheduling for providers. At the time I worked with them, Hero Health was an early stage software start-up spun out of a in-house solution to patient bookings by a private healthcare clinic.

My role

Embedded into a small team, I was responisble for improving the UX and UI of mobile app, desktop product, and marketing site, primarily for the patient-facing aspect but also the practitioner side of things. I was supported by plenty of rapid usability testing, allowing me to iterate towards a better design.

One of the main challenges was improving the user flow of booking an appointment. I pushed towards a simpler interaction, with less mental load, by increasing the number of steps in the flow, and asking for information only when necessary (progressive disclosure) rather than presenting the user with an overwhelmingly long form at the start.

I worked closely with developers to implement the designs and I also produced a light style guide to improve adoption and consistency of the brand look and feel across all materials.

Outcomes

  • Not only did the app lauch successfully and on time, but usability testing showed significant improvement in the user flow.
  • Successfully helped to recruit and onboard a full-time junior designer to carry the work forward.
